There are many reasons you might look for a job.
Perhaps you have been laid off during the pandemic or moved to a new city, state or country. Perhaps you have relocated to be with your loved ones or immigrated as a refugee. Some people merely want to get back to work after years of being a stay-at-home parent or caring for a loved one.
And some may have graduated from school and have now spent months or even years trying to find work in their chosen profession or anything for that matter.
Unemployment can indeed negatively impact our mental health and wellbeing.
The greatest challenge we may face in our search for work involves our own mental wellbeing, despite the rejections or even the silence found in the lack of response.
How can we maintain a positive attitude? How do we keep our sanity after weeks, months or even years of trying and hundreds or thousands of unsuccessful applications?
If you have been unemployed for an extended period or merely have been searching for work for months or even years, the waiting and disappointment can weigh heavily on you.
I know from experience it can lead to a bunch of negative feelings……Hopelessness, sadness, worthlessness…….
It can also lead to anxiety, depression, loss of self-esteem and a sense of purpose.
How do we overcome all these negative feelings? How can we stop doubting ourselves?
I know it is easier said than done, but hang in there…you are not alone! Don’t give up hope.
